We had our Newborn Photo Shoot today, and our little one takes the cake!
We wrapped it up in just over 2 hours. Sara (the photographer) says most newborns take anywhere from 3-5 hours, for breaks to cry it out, or bathroom accidents. Casey had NONE. No poo poo or pee pee or crying spells. Now granted she had quite a fit BEFORE the session, then we got her punch drunk off of milk and she settled down and slept the ENTIRE time. Now, it didnt hurt that the photographer brought over a space heater, which Casey enjoyed, but you almost have to since the pics are mostly in the buff. We get them back in 2 weeks, she looked adorable. I just hope Mommy and Daddy looked ok.
She was a dream today. I told Joe we will have to reward her by putting money in her bank account :)

Where we are today...
So we have settled into a schedule that seems to be working. My milk production is much better now and we gotten some Enfamil with lipil formula for emergenices. Right now I would say we are at about a 90-10% split. Most breastmilk with the occasional formula thrown in.
She feeds about every 3-4 hours. Her poopoo's and peepee's are in full effect and so far normal in the amount she is supposed to have per day.
I take at least one nap during the day if not 2. Some days I have alot of energy and dont mind the 2am feeding, others like last night...daddy handles, letting me sleep and then I handle the 6am feeding. Daddy is not such a good napper, and it catches up to him sometimes. I feel like there is always could/should be doing in our "awake times" Paying bills, posting to this blog so I can allow details to leave my brain... :)
Sometimes we go back to bed, sometimes we stay up. She is only 8 days old, so everyday is something new.
We have nicknames for the little girl. That being one. We also call her pretty girl and baby girl. Our favorite is the little tigre. This is because when we didnt have her on a set feeding schedule she would cry so hard she would become hoarse, and she would literally sound like a newborn baby tiger cub.
She is the cutest, sweetest thing. Her hair actually gets greasy if we dont wash it for a day. When I brush it it's LONG. Joe plays with it and puts it over her ears. She is going to wearing a ponytail in no time.
She also shakes her head NO vigourously at almost every feeding before she gives it up and takes the bottle. She gets the hiccups after almost every feeding. I will ask Dr Addy about this next time. It's probably not the best thing in the world, but I am not sure what to do about it.
I am beginning to feel better, and cannot wait for the day where I can take her out for walks and go over to Nana and Papa's for all day outings. Which reminds me, we did have a lunch outing at Olive Garden yesterday. She was a little champ and slept the entire time.
Now with the set schedule she is a very good little sleeper, and with the help of the sweetpeace is a very calm baby. No signs of colic yet. KNOCK. ON. WOOD.
Upcoming events: potential visit to Joe's work on Friday and pictures on Saturday. THAT is going to be something else. GETTING ALL OF US SHOWERED....AND PRETTIED UP??? Sounds exhausting but well worth it later down the line. Will keep you posted.

Very First Pediatrician Appt
May 24 (Saturday)
Casey is 4 days old.
Her temperment is really relaxed and sleepy, as we fed her before we came :) Dr Addy at Treehouse pediactrics is our peditrician. She is great, super-friendly and very very smart. They ask alot of questions. Breastfeeding or formula, etc etc. We get the "firetruck room" Joe has pics of course. She is examined and Dr Addy says she may have a birthmark on her right pinky finger on the tip. I noticed it before, and mentioned it to Joe, but it's red so I thought it may be a little blood blister. She says we will watch it and see what happens. Everything looks good except her poopy diapers, she didnt poopy for almost 48 hours when we brought her home. But honestly it was just the erratic feedings, with nurses telling you no formula at all. Plus my milk production was maybe just starting to come in that day. So little girl was starving :( Dr Addy said right now she needs the calories and needs to eat every 3 hours. Wake her up even. If you dont have enough milk give her formula. That was a relief to me, I was tired of feeling guilty as she cried.....but she said the poopy diapers will come, and they did.... on Saturday at my Bday party actually, we were all talking about the measures we would need to take, i.e rectal thermometer etc etc and about 2 hours later she went on her own. We theorize that she heard these methods and wanted to hop to it. :)
We have to strip her down to nothing for the weight check. She weighs 7.3 pounds now. Totally normal weight loss. Actually some of the nurses commented on her only losing 4% and that anything beyond 10% was worrisome. So that is good. It will take about till she is two weeks old for her to get back to her hospital weight of 7lbs 11. To be safe let's do a weight check on Tuesday May 27. We did and she was up to 7.55 which was above avg of 1/2 oz gained per day. Her well baby exam is Tuesday June 3. Everything looking good so far. Oh btw...forgot to mention this earlier. She had a slight murmur in the hospital but was undetectable like they thought it would be by the time Dr Addy examined her. Totally healthy for now!!
I haven't screwed up anything too badly! :)

Delivery
Let me try and put down all the details while I still remember somewhat clearly.
May 19th - Monday, went to work and felt pretty normal, had dinner and laid in bed. Began feeling the "painful contractions" the Dr was always talking about around 8pm or so, but at about 10 minutes apart. Around 9pm they become more frequently. About every 5 minutes. This is the criteria according to Dr Baylor. Every 5 min for 2 hours. So around 11:30pm Joe and I decide it's time to go. We drop off the animals at Nana/Papa's in case I dont come back for awhile.
Get to the hospital around 11:45. Nurse examines me and she gives me somewhere between 2 and 2 1/2 cm dilated. Same as Dr Baylor on the previous Friday. Hmmmm I become concerned that I am going home with sleeping pills and made to come back later the next day. She says go walk around the hospital for an hour. Joe and I walk as I continue to have contractions down the same hallway everytime. I finish and the nurse examines me again. She says 2 1/2 cm, close to 3. She asks me "Do you want to go home, or are you ready to have a baby?" Joe and I dont even hesitate, and I dont think even look at each other. We both say "Yes, we want a baby!"
So she works her magic and dilates me to 3cm, I suppose this is the proper amount to be admitted.
They bring me into the labor and delivery room. Probably around 2am or so. Alot of things running through my mind at this point "OMG I am having a baby" and then I think about how it's perfect timing. It's during the week (a plus for larry and kris and the kids, an SLT meeting miss for dad, and just everyone getting off a workday) as well as by the time things really get crackin and me dilating further it will be time for people to get up anyways. So it's not some crazy 3am delivery.
I get lydocane to help give me an IV, since I mention that I never had one and was sort of nervous about it. The nurse Leslie was excellant. She practically pampered me. I get the IV then. She says let's wait till about 6am or so to get the anestesiologist for an epidural. In the meantime though, so you aren't feeling those pesky contractions let's give you some staydol (same thing larry had during his stomach pain hospital stay). I am LOVING this woman, let me tell you. I am completely relaxed and actually fall asleep. But I have the craziest dream about a baby by the sewer and then running over my cat boomer :( Joe is making calls to everyone and they began showing up a little after 6am.
But first I get my epidural! This deserves it's own paragraph simply for the timeless anecdote that will be told over and over from here on out. So Dr comes in. Says I will feel a bee sting. It seems to be taking longer than I though it would. Later I find out that he tried once and hit a blood vessel. I am holding on to Joe so that I dont move. Moving with long needle in the back is BAD. VERY BAD. He sprays something on my back and my chin is touching my chest like he told me to do. I think I am talking to Joe when I say "Get your hand off my IV" fairly forcefully. Then I hear a female voice say "oh I'm sorry" I look up and it's the nurse. I ask her "where is joe" and she says "right over there" and points to a chair. I look over and say "what happened?" Apparently the spray got Joe woozy and disoriented and he had to sit down. I am shocked because this is so unlike him. I am the one who gets sick over every little thing (emotional) :) while he walks around videotaping kris/logan birth without a care in the world. It's just funny to me...the whole thing.
Ok so nurse breaks my water, I get pitocin and epidural all around the same time. I labor comfortably for hours. I have visitors in and out, as well as a new much meaner nurse who gets irritated ALOT at all the people in the room. Too bad for her. My blood pressure is shot the whole time. Very low. 70 over 40 was the lowest I saw. Epidural was causing this I guess so the gave me effederrine to bring it back up. Needless to say I threw up at least 6 times due to all this fluctuation. Strange thing is Baby girl's heartrate and BP never waivers, it's fine the whole time. This continues until about Noon. As they are checking my progress from time to time the nurse says "I feel her head, and OMG she has some HAIR....about an inch long" Mom and I and Joe all laugh and joke about just pulling on her hair to coax her out. But no such luck....ok so now they are ready for me to begin pushing around 12:30 or so. I push for an hour and a half but for whatever reason little girl is not "coming around the corner" or getting past a cert ain point. What I didnt know then was that my epidural was shut off at this point, so I can feel the pushing better. My Dr, btw Dr Baylor is on vacation, so my delivery Dr is Stephanie Michele. She says she has a C section to do at 2pm and maybe this time will allow me progress further while she is gone for 45 min to an hour. She says "We may have to do a vaccum suction or a c-section, if you dont progress" I start to cry. This was NOT in the plan. I dont want either one of the those things. Simultaneously, I start feeling MAJOR fast and furious contractions and ask what is going on. This is when nurse tells me the epidural is OFF. um...what??? Then TURN IT BACK ON. ugh...that whole thing took about 30 min to bring what seemed to be the THIRD anestesiologist in and fix me up. I am comfy again. Oh btw did I mention that I am crying somewhat hyserically during this whole time because of the painful contractions I am having and just being scared in general about what might happen. I probably didnt mention it because it was not one of my finer moments :)
Ok Dr comes back in around 2:50pm or soand I begin pushing again. She says I made progress and I am completely relieved. But we will still have to do a vacuum. I dont care as long as it's not a c-section. I push for about 10 to 15 min on my own, get close to "coming around the corner" and then she brings out the suction and I push about 3 more times. I have Joe and Mom and all the nurses rooting for me. Yelling "I see her, you are almost there" Now that is surreal. I am about to have a baby. Its an unbelievable feeling. Out she comes and they ask Joe to cut the cord. He does, she is crying and has her bowel movement of meconium, just like she is supposed to. I am in a haze still because of the medicine. They wisk her away to the little incubator crib thingy. I can't see a thing. EVERYONE is around her. I hear them say she weighs 7lbs 11 oz. I am relieved. A nice healthy size. Joe comes over and says "what questions do you have?"
I say "what color is her hair?" and he laughs. "it's dark he says" then I say "10 fingers, 10 toes?" he walks over to check...and says "yes". :) I relax and lie down. Someone says "Did you call time?" Then someone else says "3:22" time of birth. Everything seems fine now. They clean her up and bring her to me. IT IS SURREAL. I have a baby. ME? I actually did it and now I am a Mom. I smile and hold her. Baby Casey is here....hair and all :) She is healthy and everything is normal. Mission accomplished. SIGH.......

No Baby!
So had my Dr. Appt....not much progress.
2cm dilated, 80% effaced
So looks like it will be awhile.
37 cm, 155 BPM
Next appt is on tuesday. And get the way a scheduled induction works. We have to call NO EARLIER than 7 days ahead of time for the day you want. My due date and the date Dr Baylor will be back is May 27. So this tuesday I will be on the phone first thing in the morning with the nurse trying to get setup. Dr Baylor says typically between 4-6 are scheduled per day but that 15 dr's and their patients are competing for those slots. So if tuesday is booked I have to wait for the nurse to call wednesday for May 28. Hopefully all this will just work out for me.
So now she comes natural or I wait till the last week of May.
10 days left. Why do they need to be stressful? :(

13 days to go
I am starting to think it will NEVER happen
she has been the MOST active little girl the past 2 days, and everyone says babies slow waaaaaaaaaaaay down when labor is imminent. I guess that means I still have awhile. She is throwing a party in there I think. She says I love being warm and cozy! The real world is for suckers!

Labor and Delivery
Okay, So had my regular scheduled Dr's appt yesterday. Dilated 1 1/2 cm and effaced 80%. Woohoo. THEN...she listens to babys heartbeat and it's way too high. Apparently boys have lower resting heart rates. Baselines around 130 whereas girls are around 140-150. Well I have always been told my baby is "very active" and that is true, so typically her heartbeat is 166 or so...well yesterday it was 188. So Dr. Baylor says you are going to labor and delivery to be put on a monitor. I was like "oh great...the shower is today"
but anyways, had i given it 2 more minutes thought and been smart i would have EATEN something on the way to labor and delivery. But it never even crossed my mind because I still believed I would be back at work in time for the shower.
So they hook me up and nurse doesn't like what she sees at all. PLUS baby was sleeping at the time. They wanted her to wake up and move around so they could detect spikes in activity. It took awhile for that. Then they weren't seeing the spikes they wanted, so more waiting and monitoring. So she calls Dr. Baylor and she decides she wants to see me after she sees a few more patients around noonish, which of course wound up being almost 1ish. But Dr Baylor said everything was fine and to monitor for another hour then i could go. I didnt get to eat till 2:45 :( so that i have to say is going to be one of the hardest parts, considering i snack all day long.
But some side notes. I may seem casual about all this, but I know that Dr Baylor is ALWAYS overly cautious, number one, and number two, the baby is full term. So if worse comes to worse they can just take the baby. Which they actually considered doing. The nurse was very alarmed in the begining seeing as how i didnt have a fever, or infection (main causes for baby high heartrate) But they decided all is well and put no restrictions on me. Dr Baylor wont speculate but I got the feeling from the nurse that because I lost my plug it could be anytime now. She also said that it's rare that they actually see a woman dilate and efface so early before the due date. She said my body is doing everything it should be doing. But apparently they do so many inductions where women NEVER dilate, efface, or water breaks. So I am really hoping for within the week.
Wouldn't mothers day be perfect? But let's be real. We all know that is not my luck :)
So shower was postponed at word for today. Fill you in later!

Random Stuff
I forgot to mention earlier that Kris called me on Monday morning and had a dream that I would deliver this week or next. She said she was ready to get off of work, so i told her i would give the baby a stern talking to :)
Dr Appt and baby shower tomorrow. I was feeling optimistic earlier when i started to get some "signs" Had some significant back pain on Monday, and mom said maybe it was back labor, since that is what she had with me, but the past 2 days...just NOTHING :( I feel back to normal. I did experience my first braxton hicks contraction though. It feels like a tightening of the the belly, and it gets really hard like a rock everywhere. But nothing is painful about it, and of course it came and went at it's own leisure. No pattern at all. In fact, if you aren't paying close attention to your body it's almost one of those things you can just overlook.
So today I am not optimistic. I have a strong suspicion tomorrow Dr. Baylor will say "Still dilated 1cm, and 20% effaced. NO CHANGE"
But just so everyone can say that at least i tried, i am going to walk the steps today at work :)

Specialist Appt!
Dr Baylor sent us to a specialist because she detected a "skip" in the baby's heartbeat. She has never heard it before, and thought it was nothing, so she was just being cautious. Anyways, everything was fine today. Dr. Berry said that he didnt detect anything abnormal, everything looked exactly like it should. "perfectly normal" :)
Sometimes fetuses have what they call "premature atrial contractions" or PACS when mommy drinks caffeine or eats chocolate, and even if they do have it it goes away when baby is born. But again, he didn't even detect that. So all is well.
Now on another note, we actually got an ultrasound. This appt was very telling. Baby girl is currently 7 pounds 3 oz they said. Oh and this is hilarious, it has been confirmed. The baby is a squirrel. She told us that the baby has some thick hair. I said "like peachfuzz?" and she said "No, more than that, she is definitley not hurting in the hair department"
So i guess she will be taking after Joe. Also, the nose, see it's hard for me to tell what i am looking at in an ultrasound. But Joe said her nostrils are not skinny like mine, they are in between his and mine. So she will be able to breathe. :)
Let's see what else. Oh they got projected due date of May 28 :( My projected date was May 27, so pretty close.
Who knows if that even means anything. Regular Dr appt on Thursday. Can we say "wooooooooooooah effacement!" Everyone cross their fingers.

Dr Appt!
I am 36 1/2 weeks pregnant!!!
Already dilated 1 cm! and 20% effaced which is a relief. She said if a woman doesn't dilate before her due date she will late her go late. She did say she thought this would be a May Baby!
Yay Emerald!!!
Baby heartbeat was 166 although she did detect some irregularity so I am going to a specialist next week. She told me she wasn't worried though, since she had never heard it before. She always wants to just be safe though. Also, I called mom and Larry had a murmur when he was 5 or so, and nothing ever came of it. So I am not too worried about it.
Let's see, I measured 34 cm, and gained 2 more pounds. In the 30 range now :(
Oh and baby girls positioning is good, head down, knees in ribs :)
Come on gravity, let's keep dilating!!
